PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The Carolina BBQ Festival brings together pitmasters, chefs, food lovers, and barbecue enthusiasts to celebrate the people, traditions, and flavors that make North Carolina barbecue unique.
Berger Media has partnered with the festival's owners since its inception, serving as a visual storytelling partner and documenting the event year after year.
Over the course of a two-day festival, Berger Media captured the people, food, and energy of the event through photography, video, drone coverage, interviews, and social content—creating a visual library designed to showcase the festival experience and connect with audiences before, during, and after the event.
THE CHALLENGE:
A festival of this scale is filled with stories happening simultaneously.
Pitmasters are cooking. Influencers are creating content. Guests are experiencing the food. Vendors are interacting with attendees. Interviews are taking place. And the festival itself is constantly moving.
The challenge was to capture the full experience while creating content that could serve multiple purposes—from promoting future events and selling tickets to showcasing the festival on social media and its website.
The content needed to make people who attended feel like they were there—and make people who didn't want to be there next time.
THE APPROACH:
Berger Media approached the Carolina BBQ Festival with a documentary-style mindset, focusing on the people and experiences behind the event rather than simply documenting what happened.
Over two days, coverage included:
Festival and event photography
Food and barbecue photography
Pitmaster and chef coverage
Interviews
Influencer coverage
Behind-the-scenes moments
Drone photography and video
Long-form video storytelling
Short-form social content
B-roll for ongoing marketing use
The goal was to create a comprehensive content library that could tell the story of the festival from multiple perspectives and continue working long after the final day.

THE WORK
THE PEOPLE
The Carolina BBQ Festival is built around people—from the pitmasters and chefs behind the food to the attendees who come together to celebrate it.
Coverage focused on capturing authentic moments and personalities that helped tell the larger story of the festival.
THE FOOD
Barbecue is at the heart of the festival.
From the fire and smoke to the final plate, photography and video captured the craft, tradition, and details behind the food.
THE EXPERIENCE
The festival is more than what happens in the pits.
Crowds, conversations, live experiences, and the energy of the event all played a role in showing audiences what it feels like to attend.
THE STORIES
Through interviews and long-form video, Berger Media went beyond documenting the festival to tell the stories of the people who make it possible.
These stories helped bring the personalities and passion behind Carolina barbecue to life.
FROM ABOVE
Drone photography and video provided a broader perspective of the festival, capturing its scale, layout, and energy from above.
SOCIAL CONTENT
More than 18 short-form videos were created to provide the festival with engaging, social-ready content designed to capture attention and keep audiences connected to the event.
THE RESULT:
Over two days, Berger Media created a comprehensive visual library for the Carolina BBQ Festival, including 347 edited photographs, three long-form videos, more than 18 short-form videos, drone content, interviews, and extensive B-roll.
The content was used across the festival's website, social media channels, ticketing and promotional efforts, giving the organization a versatile collection of assets to promote the event and tell its story.
Because Berger Media has worked with the festival since its inception, the relationship has evolved beyond a single event shoot into an ongoing visual storytelling partnership—documenting the growth and evolution of the festival year after year.
THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY:
A barbecue festival is about more than what's on the plate.
It's about the pitmaster who has spent years perfecting a craft. The chef carrying forward a family tradition. The community that gathers around food. The influencer sharing the experience with a new audience. And the people who come together every year because barbecue means something to them.
Those are the stories that make an event memorable.
Through Berger Media, the goal isn't simply to document what happens at an event. It's to capture why the event matters—and create visual stories that make audiences want to experience it for themselves.
